"The Patterson Pervert" Exhibitionist Arrested

The U of M's Daily Helmsman published a story today on the arrest. One of the women who was targeted by this pervert had the courage to walk behind his car and get his tag number- that's what led to the arrest. Kudos to the courageous student who got that tag number- our streets are safer because of citizens like her who refuse to be a victim and take decisove actions.

I excerpted a bit of the article below. I chose to edit out some explicit sexual content in case you are enjoying this blog with one of your young ones present and don't want to have to explain that stuff just yet.

Excerpted from the Helmsman: A 39-year-old man has been charged with indecent exposure following at least two incidents on campus. Last Friday at 11:45 p.m., Shelby County Sheriff Deputies arrested Lee Arthur Rayford. The arrest and charges were based on a warrant obtained last week by University Police Services. Rayford met his $100 bail and was released late Monday afternoon.

As the victim sat on the steps of Patterson Hall, Rayford exposed himself (Cliff's note: R-rated material edited). The suspect then drove off, but not before the victim wrote down his license plate number.

She said she was worried when she got up to check his car's license number, but she didn't want anything to happen to another student here on campus.

"It's not an easy thing to get up from your safe area," she said. "I had to get close enough to look at the tag, with all this other stuff in my head, but I didn't know his limits. I didn't know if he would get out of the car. I was just thinking, 'I have to do this.'"

Security Alert ! BOLO -Be On the Look Out

Man Exposing himself on Echles Saturday Feb 7th

From Christy Leard--

This past Saturday around 1:00 p.m., one of our NSNA newsletter distributors happened upon an individual that was exposing himself and performing an indecent act.

He was in a small white compact car close to the southwest corner of Kearney and Echles (parked on Kearney). The newsletter distributor made eye contact with him then realized what he was doing. She was shocked and immediately crossed the street. He was reclined in the vehicle but was very aware that what he was doing could be easily seen by anyone walking or driving past. He then began to watch her. She pulled out her cell phone and he quickly drove off.

The description is young black male- fair skin tone. No make and model on the car- small white compact.

I will be emailing the MPD and UOM Campus police as well so they can be on the look out.

This was disturbing to say the least as the female neighbor normally has 1 or 2 of her granddaughters walking with her while distributing the newsletters.

NSNA Spaghetti Dinner February 21st

Hi Neighbors!

Enjoy a meal with your neighbors. Good food and good company at a good price.

Bring all the kids and grownups to share a community meal with the Normal Station Neighborhood Association (NSNA) at Audubon Baptist Church on Saturday, Feb 21st at 5:30 pm.

We are having a spaghetti dinner as a fund raiser for NSNA.

What a deal - for just $7 adults, $5 children, you get spaghetti w/sauce, salad, bread, home made desserts, and a drink.

There are many issues that the Normal Station Neighborhood Association deals with- crime prevention, zoning and code enforcement, liason with other neighborhoods and the U of M, traffic concerns, beautification and blight, etc.

Stop by, grab a bite, meet your neighbors, and join the NSNA.

United we stand.
